The most beautiful beaches of Halkidiki: which ones to visit at Sithonia peninsula
Many of the most beautiful beaches of Halkidiki are located on the second peninsula, also known as “the foot” with the name Sithonia.
Generally speaking, in Sithonia the sea has many shades of blue. Some beaches are sandy, others with pebbles. Some are equipped, most of them in their natural state. In short, Sithonia can satisfy everyone’s needs.
The beaches are numerous and it is difficult to list them all. I present you with the best and most popular, but there are many other hidden bays that are hidden gems.
The list is sorted starting from the east coast and going around the whole foot clockwise.
The beach TRANI AMMOUDA
It is a very long, sandy beach, a part of it not equipped and another part offers beach bars and canteens. At one point at the beachfront you can find the Sea Water Park, with inflatables immersed in the sea that can be a good alternative for children to have fun.
The beach LATOURA
A small, sandy beach that takes its name from the adjacent area of the same name. It is inside a bay, so the sea is usually calmer in windy conditions. Usually frequented by residents in the area and guests of the studios nearby. Right next to it there is a marina from where you can rent a boat.
The beach LAGONISI
A beach with turquoise color waters. It is sandy with rocks that surround it and there is an islet in front of it. Ideal to spend the whole day at the beach bar located in the center of the beach. Many rental boats that go around the island of Diaporos anchor here too.
The beach KARYDI
Although this beach is less known in comparison to the other ones (however it is crowded during high season), I believe it is among the best in the area. Karydi has a particular formation thanks to the trees behind it, the rocks that frame it, the sand and the crystalline waters. It is a non-equipped beach.
The beach MANASSOU
The scenic full of dust road that leads to this bay is already enough as a reason to take a trip to Manassou. The surrounding Mediterranean vegetation makes it very panoramic from above. Even from below, it does not disappoint as you will find one of the most modern beach bars on the coast.
The beach ARMENISTIS
It is one of the most beautiful in the area, as the beach is surrounded by nature, the waters are clear and protected. It is equipped with a beach bar and is perfect for a swim. It is accessed by walking along a path that runs alongside the campsite, known by the same name as Armenistis. Sand with coarse grains.
The beach KAVOUROTRYPES
Words could be wasted on this beach. Here the colors of the sea are truly enchanting. Since the area is made up of various coves, it seems as if you are swimming in a natural pool. It is the most famous beach, but for this very reason it is as beautiful as it is crowded (on certain days it is impractical to visit).
The beach PLATANITSI
In order to access the beach, you have to cross a campsite where you may be asked for an identity document. The sea is very clean and with clear colors. In addition to a free stretch at the beach, there is a beach bar called Africafe which is very lively during the parties held there.
The beach SARTI
Long golden beach located on the coast of the town of Sarti. Sarti is one of the most popular logistically positioned destinations for a stay, given the large number of hotels and rooms to let. For those that love an early morning stroll with the front view of Mount Athos, this is the go to beach for sunrise.
The beaches KLIMATARIA, TIGANIA and KRIARITSI
A series of bays surrounded by nature with blue-colored water. In particular, in the bay of Tigania there is a beach bar with large thatched umbrellas that make you feel like you are in the Caribbean. The green behind, the blue of the sea and the view of Mount Athos make the scenery unique.
The beach KALAMISTSI
Wide sandy beach located in the bay of the same name. Equipped. In front of the beach there is an islet. Being located in a bay, the sea is a bit more protected from the elements. If the wind blows hard on the west coast, this could be the first beach to be full of people.
The beach PORTO KOUFO
Porto Koufo has an incredible charm. It is the largest natural harbor in Greece. The equipped beach has very few deck chairs; you can instead opt for the narrow and sandy stretch that connects the main road to the port. At the port you will find some taverns to eat excellent fresh fish.
The beach TORONI
Sandy beach equipped with many beach bars, cafes, bars and restaurants. During sunset, it is a very calm and relaxing place to be. A bit like Sarti, Toroni is a village that offers the opportunity to stay and therefore we are talking about a fairly “chaotic” beach given the large number of vacationers.
The beach TRISTINIKA
Large free beach for campers. To the north there is a beach bar, called Ethnik, characterized by a distinctive atmosphere. The rest of the area is free with small bars offering umbrellas. The water is clean and the sea deepens almost immediately after you step into it. Be careful on windy days as it is not sheltered from the elements.
The beach PORTO CARRAS
We are talking about a resort that includes hotels, a marina and sports facilities. The stretch of beach is accessible to all, but an entrance fee is paid for at the entrance of Porto Carras area. Kohi beach bar is my suggestion. Beach, sea and services are at the top.
The beach NEOS MARMARAS
It is often crowded as it is part of the coast of the town of Neos Marmaras. If you are staying in the area, it can be a good option to take a swim without having to travel miles. Not far from Neos Marmaras you can visit other beaches too, such as Paradisos, Lagomandra and Elia beach.
The beaches KALOGRIA and AKTI KOVIOU
These are two beaches, parts of which are free and parts equipped. The sea has fabulous colors and are among the best beaches on this stretch of coast. At Kalogria you can enjoy the sunset with a drink in hand at the MOA beach bar or with a dip at the end of the day. In the same area I recommend visiting Spathies, a small, cute bay surrounded by pine trees.
The beach AGIOS IOANNIS
A beach suitable for everyone with the sea that deepens gently and generally protected from the wind. It was one of my favorite destinations, however, they recently built a new resort and ruined half the coast by uprooting several olive trees. A free stretch remains, but it is also used by campers.
The beach NIKITI
What has already been said for Sarti, Toroni and Neos Marmaras applies. It is a holiday village and therefore, often overcrowded. The beach is very long and can be ideal for a dip if you are staying in the area, or even for a pleasant walk to the town center.
